Our First Valentine’s Day Date a.k.a. The Day the Whirlwind Touched Down

Sarah Loves Ed

Happy Valentine’s Day!

In celebration of the day of love, I thought that I would share the story about Ed and my first date.

Before I embarrass myself, I thought that I’d share some Valentine’s Day Facts that you might not be aware of.

Did you know that…

  • Around 150 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged annually. This makes Valentine’s Day the second most popular card-sending holiday after Christmas.
  • The origin behind the patron saint, “Saint Valentine” is a mystery. According to the Catholic Church he was martyred. Others believe that the day was created in an effort to “Christianize” the pagan celebration of Lupercalia.
  • Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, USA, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France and Australia.
  • People show their affections with the exchange of candy, flowers and gifts.

Sarah the Whirlwind
Back to our first date. If you ask me, it should have been our last, but Ed’s a gluton for punishment.

It was right around Valentine’s Day 2001 or as Ed calls it, “The Day the Whirlwind Touched Down”.

In case there’s any question, I’m the whirlwind he’s referring to.

It was a double date. I knew the woman and Ed knew her husband.

We started out with drinks and ended with them as well.

In between, we had a lovely dinner and Ed and I were having a great time.

Too great perhaps…

Our final stop, the Chateau Laurier. A lovely establishment, well rooted in history right beside Canada’s Parliament Building. The 5-star qualities it exudes are apparently not shared by my girlfriend and I.

Shortly after arriving and a few turns on the dance floor, we were politely walked to the door. Being the gentlemen that they were, my friends husband and Ed came along for the ride.
It should be noted that we were the only ones dancing on the dance floor so perhaps everyone else knew something we didn’t.

12 years later and this whirlwind is still going strong.

How do you Celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Thanks for sharing — it sounds it was quite memorable haha! We didn’t do anything fancy for V-day, but spent it together, which was bliss.
