Make Valentines Day Special for The Whole Family with Olivieri Pasta #Recipes4Romance

Olivieri Pasta LogoKeeping the romance alive when you have kids isn’t easy. But it also isn’t impossible. A little planning and a lot of love definitely helps.

As I mentioned in my last date night post, once a month, Ed and I like to do something special. This month, in celebration of Valentines Day and the fact that we didn’t have a babysitter, we thought that we’d make it a family affair. If you can’t beat em, join em?

We came up with some low budget and fun activities for the whole family. Things that your kids will be talking about for years to come.

Start the Evening with a Kid Activity

Whether it’s board games, reading books, hide and seek, puzzles or whatever your family enjoys, make sure that it’s something your Kids like. A happy kid makes for a happy parent. Or is it the other way around? Regardless, pick something that will tire them out. All kids need their sleep.

Max and Artemis Doing Crafts

For us, The Kids favourite activity right now is Crafts. They love to cut, glue, colour, and create all day long. Which is just perfect because there is still a 1”x1” square of space left on the Grandparents fridge to display their art.

If you want some examples of organized crafts, check out our Valentines Day Crafts for Kids post and print out the templates. Tons of hours of fun.

Make Snacks and Watch a Kid Friendly Movie

Since I don’t let The Kids eat popcorn, I needed to come up with another snack idea. Heart shaped fruit would have been a fun idea but I don’t have any cutters and wanted the snack to be movie-like. So, we made chocolate covered pretzel sticks with sugar sprinkles on top. The Kids loved the multi-dip process and it was just the right mix of salty, sweet and sour. I even made them some simple paper cones to hold their treats and they loved that. Sometimes it’s the little things that go a long way.

Chocolate Covered Pretzel Treats

The best part, before the movie was over, they were asleep and the rest of the night was ours. And it was only 8:30pm. Just as we planned…

Cook Dinner for Two

On nights like this when we’re short on time and budget, our go to meal is Olivieri Pasta. Within 20 minutes, you can have a hot and nutritious meal on the table for less than $10! Add some candles and your beverage of choice and suddenly, The Lady and The Tramp movie that you just watched has turned into reality. And for those tired feet…

I think my family would like the “Sweet and Sour Glazed Pork Medallions.” Quick prep time but a great family meal.

I think i might try the Butter chicken and Mango pizza recipe. I had a butter chicken pizza at a local restaurant last month and boy was it delicious. I think a home made version would be just as good (and wayyy cheaper lol).
