If I had actually posted this Wordless Wednesday on Tuesday like everyone else (don’t get me started) then today would actually be Canada Day. But it isn’t so let’s pretend.
Speaking of pretending, since Canada Day fell on a Tuesday this year, we celebrated on the Saturday at Chuck and Michelle’s like we do every year (except where we almost didn’t that one year). Surrounded by transplanted Newfoundlanders who do things big. Starting with the main course…
Pig on a Spit
We arrived to find this archaic machine turning a 69lb pig around and around and around. Each time, when it got to the top, you’d think that it wouldn’t make it over the hump, but it did. Then it would start all over again. What the contraption lacked in finesse, it made up for in taste.
After 11 hours of cooking over charcoal, The Pig was cooked to perfection. Well, at least that’s what we thought. As for the Pig… I’m not sure what happened to the pigs extremities but Artemis wanted to eat the pigs feet.
Dinner always works as a potluck and this year we were asked to bring appetizers, salads and dessert. Naturally, we brought Wholly Guacamole and Salsa as well as a McCain Deep’N Delicious Cake.
Kids Activities
In past years, there were lots of young people for The Kids to play with. This year, there was only seven year old Emma but she didn’t mind all the attention.
There was swimming in the above ground pool, filling and throwing of water balloons, frisbee and football games and all around socialization with the over 60 people that were there. Most of which were familiar faces from previous years
Fireworks
Once the campfire is lit and the live entertainment starts playing, The Kids know that it’s not long before the final evening activity begins… fireworks. Just as the last of the 30 minute fireworks display was going off (you know, where the explosion of lights is bright enough that you could read a book), I realized that I taken one picture of all it’s greatness. Not only that but I didn’t Vine it either!? Next year.

Happy Canada Day! We celebrated with a family picnic to Niagara Falls. It was a fun day.
That bbq pig must of been delicious! My mom went to a pig roast when I was in high school and she went around telling my friends, “Look. It’s Babe on a spit!” Haha. I was mortified!

You had a great day! Ours was a bit of a bore. My son went out with his friends, but hubby and I stayed home with a cranky babe. Just as well because once it was time for fireworks (there was a HUGE display 5 minutes away), it rained something fierce!

I spent our Canada Day hosting a Barbeque party for my husband whose birthday falls on that day. We had adult children, adult grandchildren, greatgrandchildren — also calls and visits from other family members. It was a wonderful day complete with ice cream and cake. We do this every year for the past 20 some years and we always enjoy it.

Looks like a lot of fun! The weather was perfect! We had the kids play outdoors too and had bubbles going and chalk. It was fun. As for food we had burgers and fries but omg I would totally love to eat that lovely pork! Haha

We Newfoundlanders definitely know how to throw a party 🙂 That pig roast contraption is pretty cool looking. Nothing tastes quite so good as slow roasted pig. Yummy!

Happy Canada Day. I went to bed early with the dogs. Poor Bear was terrified of the noise. I was sleeping outside in the tent, and between the air mattress and the tent wall there was maybe five inches, just enough for Bear to wedge himself in and not move for hours.

Happy Belated Canada Day!!!1 sounds like you had an awesome time, I love a pig done on the spit it’s the best tasting pork ever especially the ears and the crackling, and the feet are also delish, oh hell everything is awesome..lol, we didn’t do anything this year, my hubby was on call so we had to sit around home all day but still it was good and the weather was beautiful!!

We went to our town’s parade, then took a walk by the beach to get our faces painted and take in the nice weather and watch all the hullaballoo. 😉
Sounds like a great day! We did some of the same. We went swimming and than we went bouncing in a bouncy castle. Along with Canada Day crafts, such as a puppet the kids made, and than put on a puppet show. Canada day low cal cake and fireworks. 🙂
Looks like a great day filled with lots of fun! I spent my Canada home sick…I got food poisoning from a local burger joint! 🙁
Unfortunately, I was working pretty much all of Canada Day. My family had a BBQ and a fire in my absence :).

Despite not wanting to look in the face of the food I’m eating, that looks DELICIOUS! The spit-roasting contraption looks a little scary, but I bet it made one tasty meal! I thought I had a fun Canada Day – trip uptown to take in some of the local festivities then a family BBQ (a yearly tradition) – but I think I’m going to have to try harder!

When my Uncle Vern was alive we had many a pig roast at my aunts cottage on Lake Dalrymple, family reunion and a lot of good food
