Encourage Your Kids to Read and Teach Life Lessons with @ICanKidsBooks

I Can Kids LogoOur bedtime routine involves putting on pajamas, brushing teeth and reading a few books. The Kids still want to snuggle so I’m enjoying the time while it lasts. Lately, they’ve started to tell me that they want to “read” the books. It makes for a slow process but they like to sound out the words and always get excited when they see a word that they recognize. To have their own personalized book would be EPIC (I might have added that word to their vocabulary).

I Can! Kids Lets You Personalize your Book!

That’s where I Can! Kids personalized books come in, with three ebook and hardcover books to choose from, I chose the one for the youngest kids (aged Newborn to Grade 4) titled “Work Hard! Play Hard! Dream Big!”. The book is about an upcoming annual Charity Hockey game for kids and this is their chance to play with their favourite hockey player. All they have to do is show the coach what it takes to play great hockey. Will it be them?

The personalization of the book took only a few minutes and was straight forward. Pick some teams, provide some names and poof, the book was complete. Over 30% of the book content is created by the child and that adds up to more than 25 pages. The only thing I didn’t like was that the “last name” field was mandatory. Note that I just put The Kids middle name instead.

The book was unique in that the pictures were all hand-drawn and the message was clear; listen well, play hard, practice lots, try your best and dream big. These are all great lessons that we discuss with The Kids. The bonus was that at 4.5 years old, they they could relate to the book and the message.

I think I’d go with My Special Talents, as I have a thing against hockey. 😛 Great feedback about mandatory name fields – this would be an improvement I think, if people could input what they desired.
