All-Natural DIY Craft Kits for Creative Kids @KissNaturals

Growing up, if I wasn’t at home reading a book, you could find me up in a tree or playing sports in our school playground. If I wore pink before the age of 30, there are no pictures to prove it and you can forget about frills or lace.As far as wearing makeup is concerned, on a day to day basis I wear nothing. Nothing. Not even a lip gloss or moisturizing cream (I know, don’t get mad at me, I assure you, my skin gives me a hard time every day). So, when at the age of three, Artemis became interested in all things makeup, we had no idea where she got it from. However, we wanted to support her in her interests, no matter what they were and at whatever age, so I started to look into all-natural “make-up” products that were safe for kids*.

That’s when I found Kiss Naturals.

Kiss Naturals offers DIY Craft Kits are locally made and produced in Canada and all the products are all-natural and have no added fillers, additives, dyes or synthetics. With 7 different products to choose from in two different sizes (mini and large) there’s sure to be something for every child.

The first kit we tested was the Large Lava Lip Gloss kit. Even though it’s recommended for kids 6+, at 5 and a half, Artemis was able to complete the 5 easy steps all by herself in less than 7 minutes. The only tricky part was the pouring of the oils into the lip gloss applicator. Max even got involved by being in charge of shaking everything together.

As for the end product, Artemis was very pleased with the deep maroon/purple colour (we added about two scoops of powder) and it smelled lovely (we added the minimum drop recommendation). Less is more for this Mom and both of us were really pleased with the outcome. It was so nice to see her so happy applying her “makeup”.

Next up was the large Glycerine Soap Kit and it was popular with both The Kids. They both loved the fact that they had four molds to choose from; butterfly, heart, bear and flower and could have cared less about the colouring and fragrance. Speaking of which, if you’re not a fan, you can just leave one and/or both out and it will still be fun for the kids to make.

This kit required adult assistance as the glycerine need to be melted in the microwave. Fortunately, it only took 10 seconds so The Kids didn’t lose interest in the least. I let them add in and stir the colouring and fragrance but I poured the glycerine into the molds. Not so much because I didn’t want them to burn themselves** but because I didn`t want wax all over my countertop.

The soap took more than the suggested time of 15 minutes to harden but that didn’t matter one bit. What did matter was that Max got to have his soaps coloured green (aqua) and Artemis got a pinky-red colour. It was easy for The Kids to pop the soaps out of the silicone mold and they played with them all day until they begged to have a bath. Again, no complaints from me.

Thanks to big sister Marcella for helping make this activity so much fun.

* When I say “safe for kids”, I mean that I can pronounce all the ingredients, understand why they’ve been added and don’t have a problem with Artemis being exposed to them”.
** While the wax was hot, it cooled down almost immediately so that The Kids were able to hold the beaker it was in immediately afterwards.

Either the Fizzie Bath or the Face Paint. With allergies (eggs) in the group of the grandchildren to be able to know what is in products before they use them is a great relief for me while they are in my care.

I asked the Thing in question and she told me “Hair Chalk!”, without skipping a beat.

Apparently she’s been thinking about this. 😉

I love these natural kits. Our favourite local toy store carries some. I have been wanting to try them!

My daughter, the newfound fashionista, would love the Lava Lip Gloss kit!! She usually has at least 2 different kinds of lip gloss on at one time…and she’s only 4 lol.

I’m glad that you were able to register your children for swimming. 90′ clock is early but manageable with the early birds that children usually are. Your garden looks fairly good, considering the unusually cold and snowy weather we have had. I am just getting ready to prepare my flower beds by pulling out dandelions and replacing them with perennials.
