You know the saying about leading a horse to water. Well, the same thing applies to ovens…
You can give a person a propane oven but it doesn’t make them a cook.
Truth be told, I’ve never cooked anything in it and I’ve had it since 2005.
P.S. I just realized that one of the elements was on when I took this picture. Apparently I do use the stove.
P.P.S. What’s funny is that in Canada, I use the oven all the time. I guess we eat different foods here. I guess we are what we eat…
I cook lots!! We bake a lot, of course but we also roast a lot of veggies and chickens in ours!
Dear Rene,
Mmm, baked chicken and veggies. Can’t wait to get back to Canada…
Besos, Sarah
Haha I love it 🙂 I do cook/bake often – so using the oven (which is genius by the way) as storage is not an option for me 🙂
Dear Soozle,
I have to admit that I just started using the oven for storage this year. I can’t believe that I didn’t think of it before.
Besos, Sarah
So if your stove switch is “on”, you should have seen flame, or smelled propane, or maybe you don’t have the stove hooked up.
Dear Eric,
I’m sure at the time of the picture, I knew that I was cooking on the element. Probably. Maybe. Hopefully.
Good news is that it’s turned off now.
Besos, Sarah
Everything or we bbq. We rarely or never fry anything. Why do you not use your oven?
AlwaysARedhead recently posted…To go nude or not to go nude?
Dear AlwaysaRedhead,
We eat totally different foods in Mexico and most of it is fried. Doesn’t seem to impact our waistline as we always lose weight while here. I use my oven all the time in Canada.
Besos, Sarah
Looks like useful storage to me. If you don’t use it, you may as well use it. 🙂

Just remember you have stuff in there, a friend of mine used his for storage never using it and then one day preheated it for a recipe, noticed the burning plastic smell and had lost his electric grill, crockpot, panini maker and more

I use the oven a lot. A LOT.
I bake snacks for lunches & after school. I roast meat & veggies. We make pizza every Friday with Thing 1 & Thing 2. Sometimes I bake cakes.
I make killer chicken wings! 😀
Cute Crock Pot, by the way!

me too, I can’t imagine not using it for that long

I *might* like it if someone else were doing the cooking. 😉
Today, I did *not* use my oven. I used my slow cooker and stovetop!
But tomorrow is MYO Pizza again so on it goes! 😀

Dear Peady,
We are big fans of pizza too. Never had it in Mexico though. Remind me never to eat your “killer” chicken wings…
Besos, Sarah
Dear Sarah,
We sometimes have theme weeks and make a Tex-Mex inspired pie. 😀
Oh, the “killer” wings won’t actually harm you. Though, I suppose feelings could be hurt if there were not enough to share. 😉
Hugs,
Peady

I use my toaster oven more than my large oven, but once in a while I need the space and turn it on. At least you aren’t storing sweaters or shoes in yours. I know someone who does just that!
Dear Susan,
I was just thinking to myself that I needed a spot to store some hats and mitts. Thanks for the idea!
Besos, Sarah
This is fascinating to me, as I cannot imagine not having an oven. Although, if we didn’t have winter, I would probably use it a lot less. And I am learning to use my crock pot more often (once I get a large oval one I will use it even more!).
Dear Amanda,
I have a crock pot in Canada and Mexico and use it a bunch. As well as a rice cooker/streamer. Now there’s something I couldn’t live without!
Besos, Sarah
Well at least you can use it for storage lol.

Dear Stephanie,
I can’t believe that I lost all those years of “free storage”. Better late than never.

Good one! I remember doing that in a camper once (stuff stored in the microwave too!)! Hope you are all well!

I think it is important to use all the space available to you! Tee Hee! Reminds me of the sauna in my parents house. It was there when they bought it. The benches made great shelves.

Well you may not use it, but you’ve put it to good use.
Dear Debbie,
Exactly. I’m sure that I’m not the only one that’s used an oven for a purpose other than baking. Right?
Besos, Sarah
Oh my gosh, Sarah! That’s hilarious! You might as well use it for extra storage space 🙂 What do I cook in mine? I make a mean oven baked fried chicken. It’s so tasty but the darn chicken smokes us out of the house every time! I haven’t quite mastered how to stop it from smoking so much, LOL.

Dear Sandy,
Someone must make an appliance for baking fried chicken, no? Or I guess you need a smoker…

i use my oven daily,i cook most of my food in the oven,Roast, Stew,Bread,Soup
My oven is filled with pots and pans too!
it’s funny seeing a picture like that i’m always using the stove for cooking meals and baking I personally could not do that to my oven but have seen other using it for storage I would be scared if someone accidentally turned it on and forgot there was stuff in it and it had gotten on fire I have a cousin that did that once and mind you she’s not the brightest person on this earth lol I couldn’t figure out what the smell was and she had left plastic containers in the oven so that’s why I don’t believe in leaving anything in there!
Dear Marlene,
I can see your concern, however, I haven’t used my oven in 10 years (ever for that matter) and my dishwasher in over 5 (never used that either!) so I doubt that I’d forget about the things inside because I’d never use it in the first place. Can’t imagine where I’d store all my stuff if I did…
Besos Sarah.
