Rethinking the Whole Picture Taking Thing

Last week I dropped the ball. Big time.

I wrote this post about how Grandparents want pictures of their grandkids and you better give them what they want or THEY YELL AT YOU and that I was being a good Mother by taking pictures of my kids and then I went to post “said” pictures and realized that I didn’t have any. See what I mean.

This week, I’m prepared. Well, more prepared than last week but then today happened.

While I was in the kitchen serving up an order for table #3 which has become my life (and I have no one to blame but myself), Max politely asks for an apple. Actually, he said…

Can I have an apple please. I looooovvvve apples and I love you too Mommy.

Of course I gave the kid an apple. I think I gave him about 53 apples and then I got to thinking. I really should be videotaping The Kids more. Not that I could have captured that on videotape anyways because he was on the other side of the wall but still.

Ed’s been asking to get me a new DSLR camera for a while now. Apparently the newer models take pictures and video. I think it’s time that I let him buy me one. For the sake of all things apple.

In the meantime, here’s my photo dump for the week.

When baby 1 was a baby I used to compile monthly videos/photos to music, burn the CD and ship it off to the grandparents. That lasted about 6 months. I watched one the other day and realized that baby 2 is 15 months old and I have 1 short video of her zombie-crawling. That’s it. Thanks for the reminder. I have about 8 devices that take video, including 3 DSLRs. Should probably find them again..

Beautiful photos! 🙂 I USED to take a million photos of every trip/getaway we had – but have stopped for whatever reason.. I very much should start that again, though.. it may seem like ‘another day/trip/time’ but in years from now I will never regret having them!

I take far more pictures than I do video. I can’t focus on my daughter very well while using video, so most of our videos are of her sitting in one place, usually her highchair.

Adorable photos! Thank you for sharing. I take more pictures but really should start doing videos more often. The few that I have are like a gift every time I watch them and of course the grandparents *love* them. I started a password-protected blog when my daughter was first was born 7 years ago to share pictures + videos with family and friends and I’m so glad I have it. I wouldn’t remember half their childhoods without it! (Brain fried from little sleep!)

Thank you for the wonderful pictures of your children. I take pictures of our great grands and send them to my sisters who only have one great grand between them. They love little ones as I do and it is great entertainment for all of us. Hugs.

I used to take tons of photos of my children when they were small, we didn’t have video in those days and they had to be printed too. Eventually we got an 8mm film camera, then onto a cassette type of film but the videos & photos now beat that all hands down and are also so much easier to handle. My son has done a photo montage that’s constantly running through on the TV when it’s on pause, lovely.

I take way more photos than videos, but these days it’s so easy to take quick little video “snapshots” of everyday life with smartphones and all the fun video apps therein.

The best thing these days is finding a Thing selfie on my phone or watching a movie trailer the Things make!

They are making the memories AND documenting them. How fun is that?

I find when the kids are small you take a lot of photos, the older they get the less photos we seem to take unless its a special occassion like birthday/Christmas.Seems the older they get the less time we have, they are busy we are busy

I take a ton of pictures. i’m terrible at not doing anything with them though. I transfer them from my phone to my google drive account and facebook. I need to get in the habit of printing them off and sending them to family.

I was just telling a friend the other day how I take massive amounts of photos of my baby girl, but there are so few hanging or sitting on a shelf. There’s a thousand photos on a tiny card lol (and on the PC). I print out a few every now and then. But when my son was a baby, we had photos everywhere. Reason being, my boy was born 16 yrs ago, when there were no digital cameras. Any photo taken had to be worth the film (remember we only had 24 pics to a roll). And then developing them made sure I had a physical photo in my hand. Nowadays, I take more photos of the TWO of them, and try to print out more, especially for all the grandparents.

Must do more videos. Must. I like the video a day idea.
