As part of my I Am Canadian feature I have been fortunate enough to have the chance to share some of the people that make Canada special with you. One such person is Jessica. She is kind, sincere, supportive and since we’re friends, I won’t hold the fact that she kind of blamed me for getting her interested in blogging. What are friends for.
Below is a chapter of Jessica’s story that she’d like to share with you. Please take the time to read her words and give her a warm welcome as Septembers “I Am Canadian” feature…
Jessica from 4 The Love of Mommy!
I am new to the whole blogging world and I remember when I first started looking into starting, one of the first blogs I came across was Journeys of The Zoo. I quickly became a huge fan and followed (stalked) Sarah on Twitter and Facebook as well. So I am super excited that Sarah has allowed me the chance to grace her blog with a guest post. I’ve spent an incredibly long time figuring out exactly what I wanted to write about and decided to go with what I do best and write about my life and the fun I call 4 The Love of Mommy. I decided that I will tell you my Cinderella story and hopefully then you will know me just a little better.
Four years ago, I was in a marriage that was crumbling before my eyes, three kids that needed me to plug back in and a decision to make that would change the course of our lives forever. One of the biggest and scariest decisions I ever made was to leave my marriage of almost 10 years. We separated in December of 2010 and I never looked back.
The next part will probably look like I jumped in with two feet into a new relationship without letting the dust settle from the first but it doesn’t feel like that to me. Although I left my marriage at the end of 2010, I am pretty sure that our marriage had gone south a few years before and I just didn’t have the courage to leave at that time.
I met my now husband online playing on a bingo app on the IPhone. We played regularly with a group of people whom I am glad to call my friends even now although we have never met. We could all chat for hours and since I had literally unplugged at home as my marriage failed, it became my hiding place.
I finally got the courage to ask my ex-husband to leave. I plugged in again and spent less time online and more time with my kids. I really had to help them through their dad leaving, it was tough and although my oldest understood, the younger two didn’t. It was hard but we persevered. I still continued to chat with Chris as he was also in the midst of ending his marriage as well. We spent many hours talking about life and what we truly wanted from it and from the talks our friendship grew. In March of 2011, he came over from the UK to visit for a week and it was the beginning of what is now our life together. He left the UK for good to come and live with us in Canada in July of 2011 after a whirlwind romantic vacation that ended with a proposal in Spain and him leaving England for good.
A lot has happened for all of us in the last three years but the most significant changes were our divorces, our subsequent marriage followed quickly by the birth of our little man a year ago. Also almost exactly three years to the day he entered Canada; he became a permanent resident and will apply for citizenship once he is able.
My three kids from my first marriage have an amazing step-dad that loves them as much as he loves our newest addition and I finally found happiness, love and a truly fulfilling marriage to a man who is my friend, my equal and my soul mate. Best of all, this wonderful country of ours decided that he was a keeper too.
Thank you Sarah for giving me this opportunity!

Pleased to meet you Jessica… and to hear about your love story. I am happily remarried and completely in love. My first marriage ended and within five months I was in love. Everyone around me judged me for how fast I fell in love with my husband but they didn’t know that we had been emotionally divorced from one another for years prior to our actual divorce.
Thanks Sarah for hosting this Canadian linkup! I love finding other Canadian blogs to follow.
Wishing you a lovely day.
xoxo

Thanks for reading Jennifer and you are right, I was most definitely emoitionally gone from my marriage as well long before the separation and divorce and although the new relationship came quick, I have never been happier. I am glad Sarah hosts this as well!

Born and raised = lucky to be Canadian!!
what a great story, I am so glad that you have found happiness at last. I came to this beautiful country in 2010, having lived in Manitoba for 4 years in the 90s. One could truly not meet nicer, kinder more helpful people anywhere in the world and I have travelled and lived abroad a lot. This is THE best place to live. 🙂
Your kids are so lucky to have a great Step Dad

Oh Jessica I have goosebumps. I am so happy you found your fairy tale your prince. People should never judge because the feeling of love that chemistry is strong when it is with your soul mate.
Also I think most of us bloggers started with a bit of stalking in the beginning, it is all good when the stalking is as nice as you 🙂
