Since The Kids were born, Family members have regularly given The Kids money to put towards their future education in the form of a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP). I say “given The Kids money” when in reality, they’ve given me the money to contribute it on their behalf. I’ve put the money into my bank account and when the time comes, usually at the end/beginning of the year, I make a deposit. But sometimes I get busy and forget.
Heritage Education Funds recognized the need parents have in terms of saving enough money, while at the same time looking towards their family, friends and those in the community who could also help raise funds, particularly for special occasions and life milestones where many prefer to give the child money.
In turn, in December 2015, they launched the unique and first-to-market Heritage eGifting Program*. This is an online fundraising campaign that easily distributes a link to family and friends who can contribute funds towards a child’s education savings plan for milestone events, and special occasions. Ensuring that their money is going where they want it to go.
While I know that people consider money to be “thoughtless gifts”, I assure you, many recipients, don’t see it that way. In our family, like so many others, The Kids have so many toys. Too many toys. In fact, close to half of the toys that they are gifted every year get regifted or given to charity. We don’t have enough room for all of them and they don’t need them**.
If you were to take the $100 that you were going to spend on gifts and invest it in a child’s RESP, assuming an annual contribution of $100, after 12 years, that amount would be worth almost $1,600! At today’s current rates, that would pay for two years of course materials. As for the toys that you gifted, they will have been broken, lost and forgotten long ago. Where as this gift will be remembered and appreciated at a time when the child really needs your financial help.
Contact a Heritage Education Fund Representative near you and this year, give the gift that keeps on giving.
Don’t forget to enter Heritage Educations Funds Annual RESP Draw and Win 1 of 8 contributions of $2,500 towards a Heritage Education Funds RESP plan. Draw date is December 31, 2015.

Such a great idea! Totally need to look into this!

Very thought provoking – it’s very true of toys been excessive in most homes and really not needed.. A gift of money towards an RESP would be much more beneficial for the future!
I only have to look at my grandchildren here to know that they have way too many toys to play with. In fact some of my granddaughter’s haven’t been unpacked since she got them as presents!! – that is so sad when others have hardly anything and it would be much wiser to help with RESPs.
The gift of Education is so very important.
